BandLab Adds Android Pro Mix Editor, Web MIDI Editing and New iOS and Android Explore Features

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 11, 2016—BandLab, the first free, cloud-based platform (iOS, Android and Web) where musicians can capture ideas and create new songs in collaboration with musicians and music fans everywhere, today announced the launch of its Pro Mix Editor for Android. In the coming weeks, BandLab will release other new features, including a more helpful way to discover categories of music on iOS and Android, and a new Web MIDI Editor. All these updates will be available by downloading and signing up for BandLab (for free) on iOS, Android and Web.

ANDROID PRO MIX EDITOR

When Android users click the Pro Mode button on their BandLab recording screen, a 12-track Mix Editor now opens. Android users can now further explore their creativity by importing audio and adding vocals, instruments and ambient sounds to take their music to the next level—wherever they are. Having 12 tracks also makes it easier for other BandLab users around the world to add their own ideas to tracks and collaborate on songs.

THE NEW EXPLORE ON ANDROID AND iOS

There are also changes to the way Android and iOS users can explore and get inspiration from BandLab. User content is now sorted by categories, making it even easier for musicians and fans to find the kind of music they like, as well as new collaboration opportunities with other artists.

WEB MIDI EDITOR

BandLab’s new MIDI Editor turns every note played into a square on a musical grid. These squares can then be placed correctly on the timeline—either manually or using BandLab’s automated quantization tool. The notes can also be deleted, moved, stretched or have their velocity increased or decreased to change their sound. Once the notes are in place, users can also change them to a different MIDI sound bank (like changing a piano part to drums or guitar), providing even greater musical possibilities.

The BandLab MIDI editor will automatically detect when a MIDI device like a keyboard or a pad controller is connected. Users can also play the onboard instruments to create MIDI music directly from the desktop.

“These are all major updates for BandLab, and we’re very excited to be releasing them all in the same month,” said Meng Ru Kuok, BandLab’s CEO and Co-founder. “Together, the Android Pro Mix Editor and the web-based MIDI Editor (in addition to our existing cloud storage) make BandLab the first truly cross-platform, multi-track DAW. So now musicians can express their creativity and collaborate on songs—wherever they are. While the new Explore page on iOS and Android will make it even easier for musicians to find the music they love, the inspiration they’re looking for and new opportunities to collaborate.”

The BandLab Android Pro Mix Editor officially launches worldwide today, with the MIDI Editor and the new Explore feature for iOS and Android coming soon. Musicians, bands and fans can sign up for FREE at bandlab.com or download the FREE BandLab mobile app from iTunes or Google Play.

IK Multimedia ships iRing, the first motion controller for iPad

IK Multimedia ships iRing, the first motion controller
for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch music apps and more

IK Multimedia pioneers affordable motion-tracking technology
to control music apps using iOS devices with simple hand gestures

May 8, 2014 – IK Multimedia, the innovator in mobile music-creation apps and accessories for iPad and iPhone, is proud to announce that iRing™, the first motion controller for music apps and more, is now available from music and electronics retailers worldwide.

First presented at CES 2014, iRing is an affordable, wearable technology system that gives users a new level of gestural control over their favorite music apps, in real-time, using hand positioning for unprecedented music expression.

The iRing system consists of two double-sided “rings” to wear comfortably on the fingers along with a series of apps that are able to detect the iRings’ accurate positions in space using the device’s camera. Through the recognition of the dot patterns printed on the rings, the device’s camera picks up the movement and translates it into MIDI information. Users can then interact with music apps by simply moving their hands in front of their device through the precise reading of the ring position, which is converted into music commands or MIDI control messages to operate various app parameters without touching the device.

iRing includes two identical double-sided ring controllers plus two free apps for various music applications designed for everyone from music lovers to knowledgeable DJs and musicians: iRing Music Maker and iRing FX/Controller.

iRing Music Maker is a free app that gives music lovers and DJs a fun new way to create music and grooves using hand gestures, no matter what their skill level. iRing Music Maker utilizes music “loops” that always sound good together and can be remixed in virtually limitless combinations by simply waving the hands with the iRing controllers in front of the device’s camera. Users can change beats, control rhythmic elements, play synth parts and control effects providing hours and hours of quality musical entertainment. Plus, iRing Music Maker also includes lead and bass synths with respective pattern players that can be independently operated for hours of error-free musical improvisation. Creating music has never been so much fun!

iRing FX/Controller is the app for skilled musicians and DJs that is both a real-time audio effects processor and a MIDI controller with fully assignable parameters. It can be used as a touch-less outboard audio effects processor, or can be fully configured to send multiple simultaneous MIDI parameters; such as control changes, notes or any other MIDI messages.

As an effects processor, iRing FX/Controller uses the analog or digital input of the device for processing external audio sources. FX/Controller can also be used with Audiobus and Inter-App Audio compatible apps to process the audio stream from music apps running on the device to add stunning and brilliant audio effects. The iRings can control up to six effects parameters at a time. iRing FX/Controller operates two simultaneous effects, selectable from up to 16 powerful and creative effects, including: Delay, Stutter, Phazer, Flanger, Compression, Fuzzy, Reverb, AutoWah, Crush, Twist Up & Down, Brake, Spin and Tail.

As a MIDI controller, iRing FX/Controller can transmit MIDI messages to other Virtual MIDI compatible apps running on the device or to external devices using compatible MIDI interfaces (like IK’s iRig MIDI). iRing FX/Controller can send out the complete set of MIDI messages (control change, notes, program change, pitch wheel, aftertouch, MIDI system real-time, and MMC, MIDI Machine Control) with up to 3 assignable parameters corresponding to the X, Y and Z axis positions for each of the 2 detectable rings for a new level of touch-less control. Additionally, MIDI messages can also be sent to a computer application via Wi-Fi (using MIDI network). Users can configure the app to control effects, filters, notes, patches and more for creative and dynamic “never before seen” performances.

iRing computer vision technology is also directly incorporated into the entire line of IK Multimedia DJ apps like Groovemaker® and DJ Rig™ and will soon be included into other popular IK apps such as AmpliTube®SampleTank®VocaLive™ and more so that DJs, guitarists, vocalists, bass players, producers, keyboardists and engineers will have a new level of control to deliver powerful and unique performances.

For third-party developers who want to incorporate and implement iRing technology directly into their apps, IK is offering a free SDK (software development kit) and licensing program which makes it easy to take advantage of this new breakthrough technology. iRing can also be easily utilized beyond music for a wide variety of applications including gaming, health & fitness, utilities and more. Developers can take advantage of the technology and improve the functionality of their apps by contacting IK via the link provided on the iRing product page.

iRing features

  • Advanced motion-tracking technology provides remote control of iOS apps using hand positions and gestures
  • Includes two identical, double-sided reversible rings allowing for numerous control combinations and control of up to 6 effects’ parameters simultaneously with two hands
  • iRings are unique looking, light, comfortable and provide a universal fit
  • Free Apps are available on the App Store: iRing Music Maker app, which gives the ability to make music using hand gestures with no previous musical knowledge, and also the iRing FX/Controller app, which lets musicians and DJs create custom MIDI control setups, plus add and control audio effects, using compatible apps or external devices
  • iRing computer vision technology can be licensed and incorporated into other third-party apps including gaming, health & fitness, utilities and more

Pricing & Availability

iRing controllers cost only $24.99/€19.99 (excluding taxes), are available in three colors (white, green and grey) and are now shipping from music and electronics retailers worldwide and from the IK Multimedia online store.

iRing FX/Controller and iRing Music Maker apps are available as free downloads from the App StoreSM.

World-famous DJs wish Happy 25th Birthday to the Sennheiser HD 25

Old Lyme, CT, September 16, 2013 Iconic, cult, legendary: only a product that inspires passion and remains in demand after 25 years earns this level of acclaim. Launched in 1988, Sennheiser’s HD 25 has come to define the ultimate DJ headphone. Alongside the launch of a new edition – the HD 25 ALUMINIUM, the anniversary is being marked by 25 of the world’s greatest DJs, who wish the iconic headphone a “Happy Birthday” and explain its essential role in their music and performance.

 HD 25-1 II

Top DJs and their HD 25s The stories and memories

Over the past 25 years many of the world’s greatest DJs have selected Sennheiser’s HD 25 as their first choice of headphone, with some using theirs over years and even decades. That enduring appeal is expressed by 25 of the world’s leading DJs (and HD 25 fans), who send their birthday wishes in a special film by Sennheiser. Star DJs including QBert, Bob Sinclar, and Luciano describe how their HD 25s become an integral part of performance and the experience of music itself. They also share stories of their first DJ performances, describe the feeling of playing to an audience and the role their headphones play in delivering a great performance. To watch the Happy Birthday HD 25 video and exclusive DJ interviews, visit www.sennheiser.com/dj.

That special something: What makes the HD 25 the perfect DJ headphone?

Built for a life behind the decks, the HD 25’s highly insulated rotatable capsules deliver high levels of background noise attenuation, make one-ear monitoring easy, and stay comfortable when worn for long periods. And the daily punishment of professional use is more than matched by its robust build quality and serviceability.

But keeping the world’s greatest DJs happy is about more than the features and specifications. For DJ legend and four-time DMC champion QBert, the magic of the HD 25 is its precise signature sound, a characteristic that’s prized by many DJs: “My ears are accustomed to the Sennheiser sound. I love that the HD 25s have a flat sound, so you hear how the music really is – not coloured, but pure – the way the artist wanted to put their music out. I’ll be using these for 50 years – 100 years!”

“I’ve been using the HD 25 for a long time and Sennheiser headphones even longer – they made the first headphones I ever used!” said Swiss-Chilean DJ, Luciano. Likewise, Canadian superstar DJ Mike Shannon has found over the course of his career that the HD 25s are built to last: “I’ve been using the HD 25s since they came out,” he explains. Commenting on the sound performance, which offers tightly controlled bass and detailed treble while handling high sound pressure levels, Shannon said: “The clarity of the sound, it’s a clean reference – it’s very real. In the studio, listening to a mix, the sound is tight – it’s one to one with how it’s intended.”

Like Shannon, Parisian electro house DJ, producer and label boss Martin Solveig has had a lifelong affair with the HD 25: “I’ve never ever DJed without it. If you look online at the pictures of all my performances and every party you’ll never see me using another headphone. It’s the only piece of equipment I’ve never changed. The reason is the same reason everyone will tell you – it’s the best headphone. The response is linear enough to be trusted even in a studio or recording situation. Of course, I know the sound, and it matches the references in my head – I’m formatted to this headphone!”

In daily use, performance has to be matched with comfort and durability. Ibiza legend and Pacha resident Andy Baxter explains that the headphones’ longevity also reflects its perfect blend of both sound and a robust design that offers a great fit over long periods of use: “I’ve been using the HD 25 for many years now – there’s no more comfortable headphone out there that can deliver such good sound quality, for myself and for many of my favourite DJs that use the HD 25, too. Happy 25 years of listening pleasure to the one and only Sennheiser!”

The HD 25 ALUMINIUM – The cult classic reborn

Marking the 25-year milestone, Sennheiser has launched the HD 25 ALUMINIUM, a new version featuring a unique, premium aluminium construction. Taking the legend into the future, the HD 25 ALUMINIUM naturally delivers peerless sound quality in a headphone that is now even more desirable. With earcups lathed individually from single blocks of strong, lightweight aluminium, the HD 25 ALUMNIUM is ready for a lifetime in the DJ booth. Find out more at: sennheiser.com/hd-25-aluminium

Art Therapy for High-Functioning Autism: How to Get Started

Music Therapy
www.thearts4autism.com
Coping with a condition such as autism is a challenge that many of us and many of our loved ones face. However, so many strategies  exist to make life easier for those of us in this camp. Many haven’t heard of it, but art therapy is one of them, and with this great new tool, you can very much help the special high-functioning autistic person in your life find an excellent therapist. Here’s what you need to know.
Check Educational Background
Art therapy is not a subject into which people merely leap. In fact, most have to earn at least a bachelor’s degree in a related field, but many go on to pursue their master’s as well. When meeting with art therapists, verify proof of their degree and ask what experiences they had in college or grad school. Many of them will have completed internships, so they have real life experience upon entering the workforce, and it’d be prudent to find out how relevant their assignment was to the situation of your friend or family member.
Working with Students
As most people know, paying for health and medical procedures is quite expensive. Not everyone can afford these extra therapists (and many have insurance plans that don’t cover this kind of treatment). However, there is a way to still enjoy these services. As mentioned above, many art therapy students are required to intern at local hospitals or other care facilities once or twice. If you cannot afford a traditional therapy program, ask your hospital or local college if interning students are allowed to offer therapy to your loved one for free or a reduced price. This does not mean that all training art therapists will be able to do so. It depends on your state, local educational institutions and more.
Space
Parents who have high functioning autistic children might be inclined to hang around during the art therapy sessions. If the therapists request that they do, or both parties have a mutual agreement that such an arrangement is best, then they should. However, in quite a number of instances, people might tense up if a parent is nearby. A therapist might also notice that the patient is not eager to discuss certain issues with a parent present in the room. Therefore, it is often better to leave them alone – anything that you need to be aware of will be made known to you. Space is healthy – never forget this.
Don’t Diagnose
After you have observed a couple of the art therapy techniques, you might assume that you can use these methods at home. For example, you might see an art therapist explain how a drawing of a house has a particular significance in someone’s life. You go home and try to apply the same theory to another person or try to replicate this with your loved one. However, that analysis on the part of a therapist is comprised of many components. Only professionals can truly recognize these for they really are.So many treatment options exist for individuals living with autism. Art therapy is especially helpful though, because it allows patients to put together images and engage in crafts. In other words, this means they are having fun, expressing themselves and also (hopefully) healing. Those who have tried this method largely support its use, and it might be helpful to speak with some who have already tried this track.
